Where is the 2027 eclipse total?
The path of totality begins in the western Mediterranean region, crosses southern Spain and Gibraltar, then continues across North Africa and into the Arabian Peninsula. Eclipse Wayfinder keeps the geometry coordinate-based because country and city names are too coarse for exact contact times.

How to plan the eclipse in the right order
- Check your exact coordinate. Confirm whether your base is total or partial and record contact times, totality duration and Sun position.
- Find totality if needed. A deep partial eclipse is not a substitute for the total phase.
- Measure the travel payoff. Use Totality Gain to see how many seconds you gain as you move deeper into the path.
- Compare destinations. Keep astronomy, climate and practical factors separate so one attractive metric does not hide a weak trade-off.
- Recheck live conditions close to the event. Weather, transport and access information can change long after the astronomy is known.
Why exact location matters
A city can span enough distance to change totality by many seconds, especially near a path edge. Eclipse Wayfinder therefore publishes the calculation coordinate and lets you replace it. The same rule applies to hotels, beaches, observation fields and cruise positions.
2027 eclipse safety
Proper solar viewing protection is required during all partial phases. Only during the brief total phase, and only when the bright solar photosphere is completely covered, can the Sun be viewed without a solar filter. Read the solar eclipse eye-safety guide and follow current American Astronomical Society guidance.
